Page design

Being a newspaper editor, I had to be quick on my feet — both for me and my publication — as I learned to design. The more I wrestled with InDesign, the more akin I felt to the staffers who reach for the pen tool not the pen.

Briefs pages

Each issue of the newspaper, we have a spread that serves as a table of contents for our publication called "Briefs." The name comes from the “brief” glace readers get of the newspaper before reading and the short stories featured at the bottom.

This page design includes generating QR codes, organizing multiple stories and advertising other publications.

Standard pages

Even the most basic newspaper pages have to meet a certain criteria.
They must include compelling visuals, interesting sidebars and use white space effectively.
Here are a few of my own.

Photo spreads
These spreads can be difficult to execute because of spacing. For this page, I had to fit several photos and captions in a way that would match the grid and feature all images equally. I also went the extra mile of cutting out the background of the golf picture to make the image pop. This process really felt like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.
