I have always had an obsession with story telling, from adapting fairy tales during my playtime to attempting to write novels in elementary school. But journalism showed me that storytelling can actually make a difference on a local and national level. I never dreamed that my ability to tell stories would have such a profound impact on my community or take shape in so many forms. I entered 21st Century Journalism class as a shy 14-year-old writer who was still adjusting to a public school system. That freshmen girl would be astounded to see her ability to communicate with a staff of 70, tackle difficult and fast pace reporting, and most impressive of all: withstand a new caffeine addiction.
